Hannah Took the Garment Bag
Once Chloe changed out of the gown, Hannah carefully lifted it.
The seamstress had brought a long garment bag.
Hannah placed the dress inside.
Rebecca reached for the hanger.
“Leave it here.”
Hannah pulled it back toward herself.
“No.”
“We haven’t finished.”
“You’re finished.”
Rebecca grabbed the opposite side of the garment bag.
“Hannah.”
“Let go.”
“You are being dramatic.”
“This belonged to my mother.”
“And Chloe needs a dress.”
Hannah tightened her grip.
“Then BUY HER ONE.”
For several tense seconds, both adult women held opposite ends of the garment bag.
Chloe stepped forward.
“Mom, let go.”
Rebecca looked at her daughter.
“Stay out of this.”
Hannah replied:
“She IS in this!”
