Josh Took the Bag
He picked up every envelope.
Closed the damaged bag.
Then handed it directly to the venue manager.
“Lock this in the office.”
Carol stared at him.
“You’re giving strangers our family’s money?”
Josh looked at her.
“It isn’t our family’s money.”
Then he looked at Megan.
“It belongs to us.”
Carol’s expression changed.
That was the moment Megan realized the argument wasn’t really about Ryan.
It was about control.
Carol still saw Josh’s marriage as something happening inside her family.
Not something that created a household separate from her.
Carol Threatened to Leave
Fine.
If she was being accused of stealing, she would go.
Josh responded:
“That’s your choice.”
She stared at him.
“You’re letting me leave your wedding?”
“No.”
He paused.
“You’re choosing to leave because you don’t like being told no.”
Carol’s face went red.
Ryan quietly said:
“Mom, let’s just sit down.”
She looked at him.
“And let them humiliate us?”
Ryan answered:
“You opened their envelopes.”
That finally shut her down.
