Her Trash Was Not Collected
That afternoon, every trash bin on the street was empty.
Except Melissa’s.
Her bins were still sitting on the grass.
Full.
When Eric came home, Melissa was standing outside.
She was waiting for him.
“Seriously?”
Eric parked.
He got out.
“What?”
“You knew they hadn’t picked up yet.”
“I wasn’t thinking about the pickup.”
“You dragged both bins onto my lawn.”
“I rolled them.”
“You knew the truck wouldn’t get them.”
“No, I didn’t.”
Melissa laughed.
“You’ve lived here for two years.”
Eric closed his truck door.
“And you’ve known for six months not to block my driveway.”
Then Melissa Rolled the Bins Back
Instead of continuing the argument, Melissa grabbed the first bin.
She rolled it down the lawn.
Straight toward Eric’s driveway.
Eric stared at her.
“Don’t.”
Melissa kept rolling.
“It’s trash day.”
“Trash day is over.”
“I know.”
She pushed the bin to the curb, directly beside his driveway.
Eric walked over.
He took the handle.
Melissa still had one hand on it.
For a second, neither moved.
Then Eric pulled the bin several feet away from the driveway.
Melissa immediately pulled it back toward her.
The bin tilted sideways.
The lid fell open.
A small bag of household trash slipped onto the grass.
Both of them froze.
No one was injured.
No one had hit anyone.
But now the argument had become physical enough that neighbors started watching.
