A Neighbor Across the Street Started Recording
Kevin, who lived two houses away, had been walking his dog.
He stopped.
“Guys.”
Neither Eric nor Melissa responded.
Kevin raised his phone.
“I’m recording this because you two are about to make trash cans the biggest event this street has had all year.”
Melissa pointed toward Eric.
“He moved my bins so they wouldn’t get picked up.”
Eric pointed toward his driveway.
“She keeps blocking my driveway.”
Melissa replied:
“It’s public curb!”
Eric answered:
“Not the opening to my driveway!”
Another neighbor came outside.
Then another.
Within five minutes, four adults were debating where Melissa’s trash bins should go.
The Street Split Into Two Sides
One neighbor supported Eric.
“If someone keeps blocking your driveway, move it.”
Another supported Melissa.
“You can’t just put someone’s trash back on their property before pickup.”
Eric replied:
“What was I supposed to do?”
The neighbor answered:
“Move it three feet.”
Eric shook his head.
“I’ve done that. Every week.”
Melissa interrupted.
“No. You moved them whenever you decided they were too close.”
Eric looked at her.
“Because they were too close.”
Now they were arguing over inches.
