Daniel Drove His Mother to the Hotel

Susan changed into a dark blue cocktail dress.

They returned about forty minutes later.

By then, the mood had mostly recovered.

Guests danced.

The cake was cut.

The DJ played.

But the story had already spread through the entire room.

Some guests thought Natalie was a hero.

Others thought what she did was childish and completely unacceptable.

Some blamed Susan.

Some blamed Emily for not confronting Susan earlier.

A surprising number blamed Daniel.

His cousin told him:

“Dude, you saw the dress before the wedding.”

That comment bothered him because it was true.

The Real Fight Happened the Next Morning

Emily and Daniel were supposed to leave for their honeymoon.

Instead, they spent breakfast discussing his mother.

Daniel said:

“My mom was wrong.”

Emily waited.

“But?”

He sighed.

“Your sister was more wrong.”

Emily thought about it.

Then nodded.

“I agree.”

Daniel looked surprised.

Emily continued:

“The difference is Natalie already knows I’m angry with her.”

She looked at him.

“Your mom still thinks she did nothing wrong.”

That was the real issue.

Natalie had crossed a line in anger.

Susan refused to admit there had ever been a line.
