Natalie Eventually Apologized

Not to Susan immediately.

First to Emily.

She called two days later.

“I’m sorry.”

Emily replied:

“You should be.”

Natalie sighed.

“I thought you’d think it was funny.”

“You poured wine on someone at my wedding.”

“When you say it like that…”

“There is no better way to say it.”

Eventually, Natalie offered to pay to have Susan’s dress professionally cleaned.

Susan initially refused.

Then accepted.

The two women did not suddenly become friends.

That would have been unrealistic.

But Natalie admitted that she had made the situation worse.

Susan Took Much Longer

For weeks, she insisted:

“It wasn’t white.”

Finally, Daniel sent his mother one of the professional wedding photographs.

In the picture, Susan stood beside Emily.

Both dresses looked ivory-white.

Daniel wrote only:

Mom. Come on.

Susan called ten minutes later.

She still argued that her dress had technically been champagne.

But finally said:

“Fine. Maybe it photographed lighter than I expected.”

It wasn’t exactly an apology.

Emily took what she could get.

Several weeks later, Susan did eventually tell her:

“I should have chosen something else.”

That was enough.
